For more than 60 years, Honda has pioneered some of the highest technological advancements in mobility. Founder, Soichiro Honda once said: “If Honda does not race, there is no Honda.” In 1961, 12 years after producing its very first road bike, Honda captured its first motorcycle World Championship. The very next year, Honda unveiled its first automobile and just three years later, Honda climbed to the top step of the Formula 1 podium. By the 1980s, Honda engines dominated Formula 1, eventually winning six World Constructors’ Championships and more than 70 races.
1983 Honda F1® Collection
Within a few years of entering Formula 1® as a constructor in 1964, Honda had produced one of the most powerful engines on the grid. But their presence in F1® was short lived, withdrawing after the 1968 season.
With racing in their blood, Honda couldn’t stay away for long. They quietly re-emerged in 1983, this time as an engine supplier. It was a small first step but monumental one as Honda-powered cars went on to claim six consecutive F1® Constructors’ World Championships from 1986.
The colorful team gear from that 1983 turning point season is the inspiration for this collection.
1989 F1® Championship Collection
In the 1980s, Honda engines were the gold standard in grand prix racing due to their power, reliability, sophistication, and dominance. By 1989, with a new, naturally aspirated V10 and two of the greatest Formula 1® drivers of all time, Honda engines were on the verge claiming their fourth consecutive Constructor’s World Championship® and third consecutive driver’s championship.
Our bold, red 1989 Grand Prix Collection pays homage to the very uniforms worn by Honda engineers during the 1989 championship winning season.
